The most commonly used guitar chords are:
Cmaj7 – 2nd of the Cmelodic major scale (from Cmaj7 to Bmaj7)
Cmaj7b5 – Same as above
Cmaj7b 9 – 2nd of the Cmelodic minor scale (Cmaj7b9 to Bb9)
Cmaj9 – 1st of the C melodic minor scale (from Cm9 to C11)
Cmaj9b5 – 1st of the Cmaj9b minor scale (C9b5 to Cm11b5)
C9b5 – 9th of the C melodic minor scale (C9b5 to Cm11b5)
Cm9b9 – 1st of the C melodic minor scale (from Cm9 b9 to Bb9)
I’ve decided that a common mistake people make when learning any scale is they play a Cmaj7 that’s not the C-Major scale. So I’ll teach you how to know when to use a real Cmaj7 and when to use a Cmaj7b5. Let’s jump right into it.
When to Use a Cmaj7
The Cmelodic major scale is the most commonly used scale in any of your guitar exercises. The Cmelodic major scale has 7 notes, D, F, G, A, B, and C.
The Cdim7 chord, which is the same chord as the Cmelodic major scale, is the second most common chord used.
Also, the Cmaj7b9 chord, which is the same chord as the Cmelodic minor scale, is the third most common chord used.
When to Use a Cmaj7b9
When you’re learning guitar the Cmaj9 chord, which is the same chord as the Cmelodic major scale, is the first fret. So when you see a Cmaj7b9 on the fretboard, you should stop.
When you’re learning chords, it’s best to use the same chord for each position. Using 2 different chords for the same position is also a good way to learn chords.
The Cmelodic minor scale, which has 6 notes and the same chord as the Cmelodic Major scale, is the second most common chord used
