An international team of physicists has used the latest physics technology to build a completely new class of particle physicists, allowing them to observe and study the elusive “halo” of antimatter particles found in the Higgs boson, the most fundamental particle in the Standard Model of particle physics.

By using a new theory called “Binary Field Theory”, the research team was able to find and measure the smallest “particle” known to exist: a proton.

A group of physicists led by Maxime Vardin, director of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), have been working for several years to build a fully working particle accelerator based on the latest technologies, but this latest work allows a much denser particle beam to be accelerated with a precision of 10 parts per million-10 times better.

With the precision of that precision, a new “electroweak” beam is now able to study even smaller and more energetic particles, and the data is being used to verify a new theory of quantum mechanical processes.

The “ultra-precision” beam used consists of millions of tiny protons, or positrons, suspended in nitrogen gas.

In this beam, the positrons can be observed with a resolution of 10-10 nanometers – a measurement that may eventually be achieved for a larger number of particles.
