What happened to the good guys again? For years, the Democrats have been trying to convince Americans that they’re the big-time party of the people. Now, they’re being reminded that they’re not — as a new study finds.

The Pew Research Center says Democrats are the party of “civic ignorance,” while Republicans tend to be “civic literate.”

Pew says the good news, if you like your civics knowledge to be kept in check, is that the GOP is making some inroads in that arena. But the Democrats’ problem: Their lack of actual knowledge — so much so, in fact, that they may have to start looking for ways to “civically educate” their party.

The study is a follow-up to a study released during the Democratic National Convention two years ago, which found Americans were “not quite sure whether they fit squarely in the ‘Republican’ or ‘Democrat’ camps.”

The Pew report notes that in that study, Democrats were the party of the “middle class” and Republicans of the “low-income. It says that Democrats have been steadily losing ground since the mid-1990s, with support for the GOP hovering around where it stood back then.

So what do Democrats do when they’re actually in need of citizens?
