The U.S. Air Force was forced to cancel its training program for Afghan national security forces last month, when it came to light that members of the Afghan Counter-Insurgency Group (ACG) had been captured by U.S. security forces. That group had been training Afghan soldiers in Kabul and Peshawar for the past three years to fight the country’s deadly Taliban insurgency.

On October 25, a spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force’s Central Command told Breitbart News that the Afghan security forces were ordered to disband because they were not ready to train and fight for the “Afghan government.”

Afghan Ambassador to the United Nations, Abdullah Abdullah, said, “Our training program is being disrupted. I urge the Afghan government to halt its training program for the U.S. forces. It’s an un-Afghan way to solve problems. The Afghans haven’t got the courage, or training, to confront the Afghan Taliban. They have an outdated approach which, to us, is too weak.”

According to the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, which released a report about the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), the Afghan government has trained just 1,500 soldiers and police officers in the past six years.

“The Afghan government does not train its soldiers to fight the Taliban or to defend the country’s borders, nor has it trained the ANDSF to make decisions to counter terrorists or criminals, to provide security or to protect its own people,” according to a press release by the office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

This is not the first time U.S. soldiers have been caught using child soldiers in Afghanistan. During July’s NATO-led Operation Resolute Support (ORAS), the Taliban executed four boys, ages 14 – 16, before dragging one boy onto a motorcycle, firing on him to make sure he died with all four on board. According to a Defense Department report, U.S. troops rescued the six boys from the Taliban, who were trying to sell them for as much as $1,000 each.
