No. The amount of weight you lose depends on several factors, such as your current weight, your current activity level (in a walking chair, etc.), your current caloric intake for the day, your current physical activity level (in the gym), or a combination of all 3. If you’re gaining weight, the result of those factors is going to be about the amount the extra weight would have put you over your target weight had you not been having those other factors, or was it? If it’s the latter, you’ll gain some weight. If it’s a combination of all 3, you’re not likely going to gain any weight and you want to aim for a lower body-fat level. Since the amount of weight you gain depends on several factors (that’s what the term “weight loss” means) you can’t simply stop eating to “gain weight”. What you want to do is gradually lose that weight so that when your bodyfat is a little closer to its target level, you can then be more relaxed, and enjoy the new level of energy you’ve gained. A lot of us have already lost weight. It’s only a matter of time before we can take the next step, and it may never be the last one that we need to do if we want to achieve our health goals and lose the extra weight that we’ve gained.
Are you doing this at home or at work?
A lot of people ask me this question. A lot of people ask myself this question. I’ve never been able to explain just what I mean by “home”, or just what my “work” might be. There are many differences, and often contradictory, messages coming from a lot of doctors, researchers, and dietitians in regards to what exactly counts as home activity. My experience is that this whole concept is just too complicated to figure out at first. Here are things I think that may help:
You need to do whatever it takes to get out of bed – you really should get in a standing position each time you get out of bed, but you don’t HAVE to do it for every single day. It’s okay to get into the chair and get out and walk a little bit if you want to move your body – as long as you don’t get in a “sit and stay” situation and stay sitting in the chair for 5-15 minutes of your day.
