The Bible says very few marriages end and much more divorce. If God was just, he would not have used the example of a married man and his wife to illustrate a verse of the law. God does not seem to be that kind of teacher of marriage. One verse is repeated more than a hundred times throughout the Bible. I can’t help but wonder who would have known of Jesus’ divorce and had they known then what they would have wanted then? The answer is all of us. There was a reason why people were put on the earth to die in the first place. Jesus said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And who is the least in the kingdom of heaven?” (Matthew 5:17). The apostle Paul taught that the greatest among men in the kingdom of heaven was Jesus who gave the kingdom of heaven for all mankind. One verse he quoted was Matthew 5:32. “And whoever does the will of my Father in heaven, the same is my brother and sister and mother.” There is no contradiction here. Paul’s teaching is clear. To divorce your wife is not something the Bible teaches. The Scriptures say this:
“… the wife is bound by law to her husband while he lives… But if her husband dies, she is free to marry another man.” – 1 Corinthians 7:5-7. 1 Corinthians 7:11-12.
“And the unbelieving husband is bound by law to his wife…. But if his wife also die, he is free from the law of adultery.” 1 Corinthians 7:11-12. Also:
“The wife has not power of her own body, but is subject to her husband by the law. But if she divorces him, she does not break the law. Neither does the husband retain his wife, in what state he has chosen, but the one in whose possession he does live.” – 1 Corinthians 7:19-20.
“… the woman who marries without the permission of her husband…. The word is here fulfilled. But if the unbelieving husband divorces his wife, it would seem to be no sin to do so, because the unbelieving husband is bound to support the wife while he lives; while she retains her former condition as his wife without obligation, and because the unbelieving wife is freed from the marriage bonds, and becomes an object for the pleasures of a luxurious life, which must be maintained even while the husband is living.” – 1
