Yes, but not the first Samoan to make a splash on the big screen.
This fall, director J.M. Barrie will take a stab at one of his favorite films of all time. The story will be centered on Moana, a young woman who embarks on a journey to explore the oceans around O’ahu, Hawai’i before she heads to the South Pacific Ocean with her family.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Barrie stated that the first Samoan to grace the silver screen is currently being considered, but a decision on who she will be is still unknown. While many Samoans have since stepped out of the shadows, many may be surprised to find more Samoans in the spotlight.
Barrie, a veteran screenwriter, previously worked with actors such as Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, and John Travolta. If the first Samoan to go big screen is indeed Moana, is she the first Samoan to ever make it big? Perhaps not, but it might be the first film about a Samoan to ever hit the big screen. Moana is expected to arrive in theaters on December 23, 2017.
If not then at least another Samoan will be making her mark on Hollywood with her next journey. So, if you’re thinking the first Samoan to go big screen is Moana in “Moana”, how far will Moana go? Let us know in the comment section below.
Munich-based design house Herzog & de Meuron has unveiled its first ever project. The project aims to redesign and remodel a townhouse in the suburbs of Berlin, using reclaimed concrete and wood. The design team is made up of architect Jürgen Herzog, interior designer Andreas Kallenbrink and interior designer Matthias Rössler.
“We decided to reimagine a housing concept for a townhouse in our hometown of Munich. The townhouse was always intended to be for visitors, but the new concept is also intended for regular citizens,” says Herzog & de Meuron.
As part of the project the team has made use of reclaimed packaging material which, together with the construction, provides an ideal site for the renovation project. The project is based on the principle of deconstructing materials, by breaking up the package and reusing
