“I’m not as good at it as I want to be,” he says. “And there aren’t many people around to teach that.” His sister and brother are both violinists, but they don’t get to see him playing. “Sometimes the teachers don’t know I live in New York, or the piano is broken, or when it’s time for the violin lessons,” he says. “I have to take the violin lessons from my parents because they don’t want someone else in the house making all the arrangements.”
There is a lot of effort that goes into the practice of violin, which in some cases can take him all the way to New York. “It takes a lot of work and a whole lot of money,” he says. And then there is the anxiety and difficulty in finding that right combination of skills and the motivation and the love to play it that makes it worth it.
Brett Sipe was born into this world. He’s a violinist and has dedicated his life to training other violinists and practicing his art, and also serving and being a member of the New York City Symphony Orchestra.
Falling into the void, you get to pick your crew—and, if the mission demands it, the next one in line.
At level one, you can pick from a wide variety of characters to serve your crew, all of whom will get higher powers and a greater role in the adventure. This progression system makes for some of the most varied and interesting characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic—and you can level up to unlock bonuses and perks that will help you on your journey.
There’s a lot of variety here in terms of perks, but your choices will also affect other characters. If you select “Mentor” from one of the classes, you’ll start in the Mentor’s personal crew that starts off with the power of a second, weaker character. Your companions and companions with levels in each of two of the following classes will become unlocked over time.
Once you have all 12 of your crew members selected, you can unlock another level that unlocks other classes—and, for each of their levels, you will unlock a unique and exciting perk.
Once you reach level five, you can choose to be named Captain, or be able to change your crew’s name, as well as your ability scores.
Once you gain your crew’s first two ranks, you can choose the next in line, and so on.
