The White Sox announced today that they have acquired lefty Matt Albers from the Texas Rangers for cash considerations. Albers, who turns 31 this week, has appeared in one game.
Albers has been a solid starter in Triple-A Durham this season for the Rangers. Despite a 5.63 ERA over 36 innings between Low-A and High-A — the best mark in the Astros system — he posted a 7-3 record as a starter and allowed a far lower .244 batting average against. That’s a marked improvement from a 2013 in which he allowed a .250 average to hitters in the majors.
Albers has a 4.38 ERA in 46 innings in the minor leagues, with 9.4 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9.

State Rep. Mark DeSaulnier is introducing legislation to repeal the controversial ban on women in public during their menstrual cycle at public events.
“There has been some debate recently on whether and when women should be allowed to enter public restrooms in violation of their religious beliefs,” DeSaulnier said in a press release. “This legislation will ensure that if there are any concerns at these events, women are not placed in a compromising and confusing situation because of their religious beliefs.”
Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Bell Gardens, introduced legislation to remove the state’s controversial “bathroom bill” from the legislative calendar.
DeSaulnier, whose home state of California, recently became the first in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage, is sponsoring the bill that could be signed into law if Gov. Jerry Brown signs it into law. If state Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, doesn’t sign, the bill will simply die in the Legislature.
“There’s absolutely zero likelihood of this legislation passing,” DeSaulnier told ABCNEWS.com this week. “The state has a well-established policy of nondiscrimination and we have no right to enforce a discriminatory policy toward anyone based on their sex, so it is a non-starter.”
Despite the ban, two cities in California already have anti-discrimination ordinances that allow transgender people to use whichever bathroom they need, if
