Yes, and in fact there are a large number of online guitar classes. So if you want to learn guitar it’s probably easier to do it yourself.
How do people listen to your music?
They don’t hear the same things as most people – they think you’re using your voice, but those are the vocal notes, and then other instruments are adding stuff.
Do you have any recommendations for guitarists for this year?
I’ve written about that a lot, and I think there is a lot of room for all styles. I think, if you’re open to the whole range, you can still play your own music; that’s just a different genre. So whatever you like is okay, I think.
Any tips on getting started to learn guitar?
Listen: You know… I don’t have a guitar that I’m obsessed with, I think it’s cool, but I don’t really want to hear what it’s doing in a song, so it’s just good to just listen and keep your ears open. So play it slowly and try different keys… There’s no one right way to play a song, if you play it slow, then you’re kind of getting into a groove, and other people are playing slower and you just haven’t caught on yet, so then you get into the groove.
Also, don’t get all excited about a chord progression; that doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not like the way it is in a song, so don’t worry about that too much, just pick a chord progression that sounds really good to you.
And then go on. The guitar, by the way, is very easy for those who are really good at it. It’s just really fast, so it’s easy for someone who is not really good, they can just stick to it and start playing it, and you’re going to get something interesting and different.
