To say that I like or am fond of guitar is an understatement. After the passing of two grand parents, I started looking for another way to make music. That’s when I heard Korn’s song “Take Me Home”. That was a huge inspiration for me and was the start of The Beethoven Project. I was fascinated by the story of the son that had his parents die. He went on to be in the band The Beethoven Project, and went on to write this track. So I was determined that this one was a solo song inspired by that particular family tragedy. I also wanted to do something that could be both a statement and an apology.
What do you think about the fact that Korn is the best performing band in Metal?
When Korn come out with a new album, everyone is talking about them. Everyone has an opinion on it, and they’re not just Korn fans. When we do new songs or make a band album, people know we’re trying something different, with new sounds and different influences. It’s kind of like trying to create something new from the ground up and doing that without using any of the band’s previous influences. You can never really do this with metal. You can’t use anything that’s been done for that genre to really work for something else, because you can’t go and use the same sounds to create something completely different. You’ve gotta take a different approach, and you can’t get a classic band to do something like this by copying other guys. You have to do it completely off your own terms and create something special.
I think Korn has done this quite successfully. They’re definitely the hottest band around right now, and have taken some of the biggest hits of the past few years and created something great for themselves.
What do you think of the fact that the next release from you will be the second track on the follow up to O’Vision?
Honestly, I’ve been meaning to just do that for a while. This band will always be one of my favourite groups to make music with. I think it would be the least risky thing I’ve ever done. I’ve always wanted to, and when you have a band that you love, but aren’t making music with, it’s hard to take the leap. So I didn’t want to do a repeat of O’Vision in that it’s an older album that’s not out, and a new EP that’s not out. As I
