Is 22 too old to learn guitar? – How To Learn To Play Guitar For Kids

In my opinion, yes. However, it just seems so easy to play and that’s why some people are so addicted to it…

This is one of those things where you can’t put a limit on it. If you’re not playing it, then you are already more advanced than your younger self (which is cool too).

Don’t waste your time on the newer stuff and stay strong with the ones you know you’re good at. You just might need to start with a few less tricks at first but then go at it with a whole lot more. There’s no guarantee you’ll be able to learn something faster than you know you’re good at so keep going!

Do:

Try it!

Find your favourite chord progression and play through it as many times as you can.

Learn all possible chord progressions until you get the feel of them. You’ll probably hit something you can play as fast as you can at 20.

Go back to your favourite guitar lessons and re-read them as often as you can. There are so many good guitar lessons these days… it might be better to do a few on your own so that you can find what you like the most.

The one thing you should never do if you haven’t already is get stuck at one guitar lesson or another for a long time – that’s really detrimental to developing as a player.

Don’t:

Take lessons at an expensive studio. As a beginner you’ll be using these resources as you go and you should be able to make some good money doing it with your own money.

Learn a bunch of free lessons. Sure, you might learn a bunch of new chords and scales but you’ll also be repeating the same exercises over and over again… so you’re just repeating the same bad stuff over and over again.

Have a group of free players. Your first few lessons won’t be perfect at first but they’re your introduction to the great guitar guitar lessons out there so they won’t be a drag. And if you ask them what they really want to learn they’ll say “I don’t know how to play yet” – they’re learning to play anyways!

Take a couple of lessons and then only take a few more at a time… you should never have to take more than a couple of lessons.

Always stay strong and don’t listen to your instructors telling you what you’ve done wrong. That’s just a bunch of people being very
