Or at least what chords it’s better to have memorized before a show?
It’s good to be a Republican. It was good to be a Democrat. It’s good to be a Muslim. It’s good to be an elephant.
I know which one of those three things I’m talking about — and it’s probably not a Democrat. There is one thing all these people in my neck of the woods share, and I’m glad it isn’t you.
If you’ve ever been to California, you know what “it has to be Democrats” really means. This, to me, is the definition of a big-government state. And, to be quite honest, I’ve felt that I’m an essential part of that system. In a country with as many problems as the United States has, having a Republican in office is probably as good a proxy for the problems we have as having a Democratic senator or governor in Congress.

So it’s a really strange feeling, sitting at the table in the middle of a debate, to feel in every possible dispute that there are the Republicans, you know, who are all for “no,” and you have Democrats who have all for “yes.” And it seems like the Republicans have this sense that we don’t really talk to them, and so they really get a bad feel for it.
“But,” I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking, when I see this, “It has to be Republicans. It has to be Democrats. No. No. There’s just no question about it, it’s just the way it is!”
But, of course, there is a lot of truth to this. And it’s a problem. This is a country where we have more Democrats than Republicans. We got 46% of the popular vote. And, yeah, there are some of the usual suspects, like Democrats and African-Americans. But Democrats are still a minority, if you will. We had a Democratic president in 2004 — one who, at last count, was about 10 million away from the majority.
I remember, a couple of years ago, when the Republicans had control of the House — and I’m not complaining about that. But there’s no question that the majority
