Nina Freeman: I work in advertising, so I think, when it comes to film, I’m really just a product of my job. I’m a marketing person, so I get the same product at work and then I show it in advertising. So, that’s what I’m talking about.
I’m a creative person, and I don’t need to make it as a performer. It just works for me. When I see things going on I look at what I would like to do and I go, “Oh, I can do that with this. Let’s make that happen. Let’s make this work.”
I’ve done some things in the past with this and some things in the past with that. I have to be really careful about that because I think it would jeopardize my career to put all these people in one frame when it could be done in another one.
I’m not going to do this on film, though. If I see a movie, I might watch it once or twice but I won’t make the leap to an eight-hour movie and risk what could become a career. So, if I have a chance to work with that I’m like, “Yeah, I’d love that.” I have all those qualities I’m looking for. A real good understanding of what’s going on.
I’ll have to see and do my work when it shows, and if that’s not possible, I will still get to work on the story — whether that’s in a film or on TV. My job is to make the story happen. I would love to do more of that. The thing I have to get through is, in so much of what we see, so much of what we see of so many people, that we don’t know any better than to see them as we are and not judge them with any kind of judgment.
What is your ideal situation in a creative capacity?
Nina Freeman: I mean, I’d love to be in a room with somebody that’s got one purpose, and that is creating art, or telling a story, or producing a performance. I would love to be in a room with somebody that has that. I’ll be in the theater again soon with Michael, I’m going to go and see Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and I want to be in that.
I think that’s one of the great things about television, and one of the things that I love about television.
