Then you should make math accessible.
I think I got this idea from this article on the NYT website on math being a crucial ingredient in making documentaries. Here is that link. I just want to quote a couple of paragraphs from that article.
Even though the United States has the second-highest percentage of college-educated adults, it also has a median household income of about $43,000; the median income for the bottom 80% of households is just $18,000. A recent analysis by researchers at the Pew Research Center and the Center for American Progress, however, found that just 5% of college graduates have the college degrees required for most economic positions. In reality, only 5% of the U.S. workforce is at the highest-paying jobs today, but more than half is between the ages of 25 and 64.
A lot of this is because of the college level, but I think the math problem is something you have to be able to solve. A lot of the time you can work out that for you and your students, and make your film and distribute it. I am actually very grateful to have people like Chris Anderson and Peter Smerick doing that work with me on my films and projects. If you have a problem with math, you should work on it.
I have no idea how to solve it, but I will give some tips. One of the first things you need to do when you come up with your film’s math problem is to look at it as a series of problem you would have to solve and decide which number is easiest to work with.
The easiest math problem to think about is one that can be solved mathematically by using the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, … You can add to each one. You can divide by the number of solutions there are, and you can combine them to get another number.
I worked my way through the list of numbers one at a time and then figured out the easiest to work with one after that. Some of these numbers took me ages to figure out! Let’s see if you are able to figure them out too.
4.3 – Addition and Subtraction
I started by doing the multiplication table and the division table (the problem gets easier as you get through the number of solutions)
There is also the addition problem. I did the number 2,3, …
4.2 – Multiplication Table
One problem I had was
