We’re talking about a real character, and not an animal from the show. So we started with a sketch. We drew a lot of things that were more colorful than they would otherwise be because we wanted to give them the ability to have their own personality.
Why does Zebra take the name “Zebras” if the animal isn’t a horse?
Jenna: It’s a reference to a character from the show “The Lorax”.
So why do you think it was a good idea to use “Zebra” for the character?
Jenna: Because we weren’t going for anything too outlandish and “zebra” is pretty cool and funny.
Did you have any specific designs in mind for this character?
Jenna: In the early stages we really didn’t have any specific designs or concepts in mind for the character. It’s also a cute animal as well so we were trying to try and find something to bring it all together.
The sketchbook that you draw at work was a gift from our co-host Lauren. What could she possibly know about animals?
Jenna: Oh man … she is the queen of animal sketches and knows all sorts of amazing animal stuff, like what makes a zebra? She’s also got a pretty crazy crush on a donkey, so I don’t know.
Do you have a favorite animal as a kid?
Jenna: I have a favorite chicken. I don’t get to see her often but she and I have been friends since sixth grade. She is a really sweet and fluffy little chick. She is also like the sweetest little gal.
What is your favorite animal in this world?
Jenna: My favorite animal is a zebra, and the next is a horse.
Which animal would you most like to be friends with?
Jenna: I would like to meet a zebra. She would be my friend the zebra. I am in touch with her a lot so maybe I could sneak up on her and say hi.
If you could tell me ONE thing that only a zebra does, what would it be?
Jenna: I would love to meet other zebras.
So you would like to meet all the animal characters (or would you even know which
