I like to draw my own dolphin.
Does it hurt?
It has to look real, I guess.
How do you create all that detail?
It’s all the same to me.
How long do you spend drawing a particular piece?
Mostly at lunch, and after work.
Are you comfortable in the presence of others?
Of course, it’s a privilege—I’m happy everyone likes my work.
Is it hard to work with a lot of people?
Every year I have to start over again.
Why is it important for artists to have an eye for detail?
The more detail I can create, the more important it is for me to have a professional eye for it, for the rest of my life.
How long do you stay in New York to work?
How do you feel about living in New York?
It’s pretty good. There are lots of nice people, nice buildings, there’s a good art scene—I like the city.
What do you like most about New York?
Oh yeah, the street culture.
Do you find that people are more welcoming here?
I think so—New Yorkers do care a lot. They will talk to you a little more if you have something they’d be interested in. Sometimes they will even put the phone down while you talk to them.
Do you have a motto?
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
What about as an artist?
I want to be as honest with the people I paint. I just want it to be perfect. I’m not trying to get ahead or anything.
Do you think your work is more appreciated in New York than Europe?
I hope so.
There are lots of great art galleries here—more art galleries in Europe. It’s difficult.
Why do you love New York?
Oh—there are many things I would do here if I could stay.
I think the piece I did before—that was my first time seeing the New York City skyline. Maybe the city isn’t that great anymore. But it is beautiful at the moment, I think. The city is beautiful—it’s beautiful everywhere. I love it.
Well…I like the way you write the songs.
